Blue Bayou
Two Great Parks -- One Great Price
by Dorothy Paul
A Summer Concert Series, a new ten-story tall water slide, the Louisiana's Idol Competition -- it's all here for you to enjoy at Blue Bayou Waterpark and Dixie Landin'. Aside from the new summer events, the parks offer the same great rides and pristine family-oriented atmosphere that have made Blue Bayou a Baton Rouge favorite for 3 generations. And the 2004 season pass will grant park-goers access to all the summer fun for only $49.95.
"The park has really stepped out to make itself an exciting, family-friendly place," says Benny DiChiara, Director of Media and Special Events. "This summer will be our best ever, no doubt about it."
Blue Bayou and Dixie Landin' are offering the second season of their Summer Concert Series, featuring such talent as Audio Adrenaline, Gretchen Wilson, and Aaron Carter over eighteen concerts. (Find concert information at www.bluebayou.com.)
"Baton Rouge used to be a main stop for many tours, and we have not been for years ... now we're changing all that. We provide a family-friendly environment where mom, dad, grandparents, and kids can come out spend some time [at the parks] and catch a great concert," Benny says.
After over a year of construction, the highly anticipated CONJA' water slide is finally available to the thrill-seeking public. At 1,500 feet in length and ten-stories high, the CONJA' is the largest inline waterslide in the world. An exciting cross between white water rafting and bobsledding, the slide features two rafts that can fit up to four adults apiece or two adults and three kids.
"It's tremendously exciting, an amazing ride," Benny says. "This is an experience not to be missed."
The Louisiana Idol competition is a spin-off of the Fox hit "American Idol." For ten weeks this summer, talented Louisianans are invited to audition American Idol-style for a grand finale competition on July 25. At the final competition, the ten weekly champions will compete for a two-night, round trip to the city where the next American Idol competition will be held. The winner will then receive a recording session at Festival Studios in New Orleans to cut a single.
"The Idol series is a great highlight on local talent. And it is an occasion when families can come and support their kids," Benny says.
A season pass is a huge bargain, granting access for an entire summer not only to water slides, rides, and games, but also to all of the Louisiana Idol competitions and to all eighteen concerts -- at no additional charge! To sweeten the deal, a season pass also includes a coupon booklet which holds $500 worth of savings for food, drinks and more.
"It's a no-brainer," Benny says of the $49.95 season pass. "It's cost-effective not only for families, but also for companies."
The Summer Concert Series and the Louisiana Idol competitions are held in a 6,000-seat grassy venue between the two parks. Benny says that entire families should bring lawn chairs and blankets to stretch out and enjoy the concerts. "It's an awesome way to get away and spend time with your family in a safe and super-fun atmosphere."
