Dazzle Glazz
Duncan Tooley is a local artist of the first rank whose medium is glass: beveled, colored in infinite shades, even triple-glazed. "We're blessed by God with sunlight composed of many frequencies of color," he says. "Our job is to separate the sunlight with glass and make those many colors dazzle the inside of your house." Hence the name, Dazzle Glazz.
Both locally and across the country, the glass art of Duncan Tooley is prized for its originality, detail, and beauty. Every piece is a signed original work of art and the dazzle is guaranteed! "I offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee on all my beveled and stained glass. I've never had to remake a piece of glass. Sometimes I make two designs to give my customer a choice and they buy both!"
Duncan says he can cater to any glass request. He explains that some customers have an idea what they want, but others do not. He usually sends them to his website (www.dazzleglazz.com) or Circa 1857 to help them decide what the do and don't like. Then a careful and detailed consultation in the studio will result in an approved sketch and their specific bevel and colored glass selections. The initial payment and a schedule agreement put the work into production.
"Whatever a customer wants, I can do." It's no idle boast from this gifted and disciplined artist, who continues to produce the most beautiful and creative glass art in the area.
The price is approximately $50 per square foot for simple designs like cabinet doors, and $100-$125 per square foot for moderate-complexity Dazzle Glazz beveled or stained doors or windows — a great bargain for unique artwork that will provide enduring beauty and enchantment for your home. Or as Duncan himself will tell you, "If you want something common and low-cost, go to Home Depot!"
Because many homeowners want more privacy, Dazzle Glazz offers the largest selection of clear, textured, "obscure" (privacy) glass in Louisiana. Expert repairs, installation, and triple-glazed insulation are also offered.
This season is a great time to give Dazzle Glazz a call. "Winter is a great time to think about art glass in your home," says Duncan. "Many people getting ready to build or remodel in the springtime can make their glass decisions now and order their windows and doors before we have the long backlog in the spring and summer."
Dazzle Glazz has seasonal glass gifts for sale (also doors and windows) at their showroom in Circa 1857 Art & Architecture, located at the corner of Government Street and Park Blvd.-19th Street in Baton Rouge. They also feature their work at Interior Transformations, 8380 Tom Drive in Baton Rouge, and Louisiana Furniture Gallery, 425 SW Railroad Avenue in Ponchatoula.
Duncan is assisted in his Dazzle Glazz Studio by his daughter Diana and artist Warren Simmons. "Warren brings a curved, flowing 'organic' art that complements my more geometric style," he says.
In addition to hundreds of residential customers over the past 21 years, Duncan has made liturgical art for the chapel at Woman's Hospital (1986), St. John the Baptist, Brusly (2000) and St. James Place's chapel (2004).
Presently in the works are a train station (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church (Baton Rouge), Louisiana House (LSU educational project), OLOL Children's Hospital Miracle Mansion, as well as making speculative glass and mosaic crosses for sale from the website and at Circa 1857.
There is still time in the schedule for your piece of art! Call Dazzle Glazz at (225) 216-9484 to schedule an initial design consultation and glass selection appointment.
