Perhaps you just want to know if you are having a boy or a girl. Or maybe you wish to see your unborn child's face in three dimensions--or your child moving about the womb! "Every scan is different," says Rafael DeCastro, owner of First Glimpse. "Sometimes the babies are yawning, sometimes they're crying, smiling, or opening their eyes, sometimes even sucking their toes. It's incredible." For just $159, First Glimpse's top package includes the 4D ultra-sound session, a VHS copy and CD of any images that are captured; color and black-and-white prints of the images; plus gender determination. Expectant moms and their guests are treated to a luxurious setting complete with a babbling fountain, 36-inch flat screen television, and ample juices and chocolates. "Our Moms are pampered here," says Rafael. "The care that our ultrasonographer shows is incredible. She's funny, she's nice, and she treats every single person with the necessary time to obtain images of your child." Rafael notes that the length of the appointment allows for a juice or chocolate break. "That helps to gently encourage your child to move into more suitable positioning for ideal imaging." An army of satisfied customers bears testament to the First Glimpse experience. "Most people we see are referrals," says Rafael. "People tell their friends about us." To receive a scan at First Glimpse, pregnant women are required to be under the care of a prenatal physician. "We are completely non-diagnostic," emphasizes Rafael, noting that "our service is affordable, but insurance will not cover the fee because we are non-diagnostic. Our service is not meant to take the place of any doctor's visit. "It's just for fun," Rafael says. Rafael suggests a gestation of at least 26-32 weeks for 4D ultrasounds and 17-24 weeks for gender determination. "The reason is that the mom is always conscious that she is carrying the baby. But for the dads seeing their baby for the first time, it is very powerful."
