Infinity Hypnosis:

Tapping the Power of the Subconscious

Conrad Adams of Infinity HypnosisDo you want to stop smoking? Lose weight? Become a more effective salesperson or leader? Control your stress?
For many people hypnotherapy is an effective and inexpensive method of achieving these goals, and Baton Rouge is lucky to have one of the field's top talents in Conrad Adams.
Conrad's Infinity Hypnosis Institute has helped thousands of individuals, including doctors, lawyers, psychologists, writers, college professors and others to deal with such areas of concern as anger, anxiety, athletic performance, depression, smoking, drinking, fibromyalgia, memory lapse, self confidence, learning improvement, self reliance, dental phobia, pain control and sexual dysfunction — to name just a few.

With so many therapy choices, offered by counselors, psychologists, "life coaches," and others, why choose a hypnotherapist?

"Hypnotherapy cuts to the chase," says Conrad. "It deals directly with the subconscious messages, good and bad, that we tell ourselves each day that affect our behavior and state of mind." Conrad asserts that hypnotherapy is quicker, more effective, and more enduring than conventional treatments.

During hypnosis, a properly trained hypnotherapist can give the subconscious mind suggestions to help the individual make the positive behavioral changes desired. Conrad says that contrary to a popular misconception, the hypnotized individual remains in control at all times.

In 1958, hypnosis was accepted by the American Medical Association as an adjunct to medical treatment. In 2002, Conrad was selected from a pool of thousands to receive the Therapist of the Year award at the International Association of Counselors and Therapists' annual conference. Conrad also owns and directs the only licensed hypnosis school in Louisiana, located in the building that contains his office.

"The ability to reprogram emotional attitudes and reactions is a latent talent within all of us," says Conrad. "Hypnosis is the most functional and reasonable way I know to re-train lifelong attitudes, rather than suffer a lifetime of emotional misunderstandings the conscious mind is unable to change."

patient at Infinity HypnosisIn a typical session, the client sits in a comfortable recliner. Headphones are worn as Conrad speaks soothingly into a microphone, making suggestions to help coax the individual into a deep state of relaxation. Conrad will then make specific, tailored suggestions to the individual's subconscious. All sessions are tape-recorded. Afterwards, Conrad gives the tape to the individual and encourages him or her to listen to it during leisure time.

The depth of hypnosis varies with a person's ability to respond. Conrad stresses that people of average intelligence can be hypnotized in most cases if they are willing and do not resist, unless there is some form of organic brain damage. "Wanting the anticipated change in behavior is the key element," says Conrad. "Generally, the more the desire to make the change, the more receptive the individual will be."

Infinity HypnosisAs part of my investigation for this article, I allowed myself to be hypnotized by Conrad. I decided on a general stress-relieving session. After I was comfortably seated, Conrad gave me a pair of headphones through which a distant, subtle pulsing began to filter. As Conrad began the hypnotic session, I felt a bit like Matt Damon in Good Will Hunting, and began self-consciously to tap my fingers and sing "Afternoon Delight." However, as Conrad's mellow voice took hold, I succumbed to his soothing suggestions, and allowed my subconscious to listen. I remember thinking, "This guy is good. He knows what he's doing." Conrad's efforts resulted in a remarkable state of relaxation combined with a heightened state of mental and sensory awareness. Afterwards, Conrad gave me the tape. "It's yours, not mine," he said. "Listen to it as often as you can."

A single session with Conrad had proved enlightening, and subsequent self-hypnosis sessions, using the tape, have also been fruitful — a trip to a quiet place of the mind, where issues are being decided without conscious effort .

Though Conrad is a certified clinical hypnotherapist, he continues to hone his skills and learn more about his craft. His professional memberships include the American Board of Hypnotherapy, the National Board of Hypnotherapy, the International Association of Counselors and Therapists, International Hypnosis Federation, International Medical and Dental Hypnotherapy Association, Louisiana Hypnotherapy Association, and Gulf South Hypnotherapy Association, as well as other professional associations. He maintains a rigorous academic schedule, both teaching and attending workshops, seminars, and college courses throughout the year. "The techniques are always improving, and our understanding of the subconscious continues to grow," he says. "There remains much to be learned."

That is my sense of Conrad Adams: a man interested in learning, and in facilitating the learning of others — helping them to help themselves. That's what it should be all about, and it's not always that way. Conrad is a good one. Call to set up a free consultation with Conrad at (225) 924-0604.
