Sparkling Klean Services, Inc. is a residential and commercial cleaning company serving Baton Rouge, Lafayette and New Orleans. From pressure washing to carpet cleaning, Sparkling Klean does it all.

Owner Roosevelt Franklin grew his business from modest beginnings by virtue of toil and determination.

"It all started with a single mop bucket and a squeegee," he recalls. "When we first opened we nearly starved. But when you start out of your own pocket, you learn pretty quickly how to be successful."

Today, Sparkling Klean has several hundred accounts, including some of the most prominent clients in the business. With five trucks and 40 dedicated employees, the business has become a force in the area's commercial cleaning industry, and now continues to expand. "Customer satisfaction is the key to our success," says Roosevelt. "We're not looking for fast profits. We're looking ten years down the road, not two or three. Our clients understand that."

Though administrative duties take up much of his time, Roosevelt still gets out in the field and assists with the cleaning. "We offer personalized service at Sparkling Klean, and that means you are going to see my face in the field. I always tell my managers that, even if we became a Fortune 500 company, we would still go out in the field and check on our people and get our hands dirty.

"We are always providing internal checks on the quality of our services," continues Roosevelt. "But if there ever is a problem, we make it right. I will address the problem personally. If we make mistakes, we will correct those mistakes. That's our motto. The customer just needs to call us.

The company has come a long way in a short time. Just six years ago, Roosevelt was driving a truck for a living.

"I was making good money, but I needed to be at home with the family and the kids," he reflects. A friend in the roofing business offered to help Roosevelt get started with a business of his own. "He told me, 'If you know what kind of business you would like to open, let me know,' recalls Roosevelt. "I told him I would like to open a janitorial company. He wanted to know why, and I said the start-up costs would be low. He agreed, gave me a mop bucket and a squeegee, and hired me to clean his house once a week."

Word traveled fast about the small but devoted cleaning company and calls flooded the Franklin household. "We had five thousand fliers ordered but we never had to put them out. Our hands were full."

A family business, Roosevelt is assisted by his wife, sisters, daughter, and niece. "Everybody plays a role," he says. Roosevelt is also thankful to his parents, Dianna and Roosevelt Sr., for chipping in when the company was getting off the ground.

Roosevelt now inspires other young business owners by way of example. "We took a big risk and it paid off," he says. "People don't realize that you may have to work 100 hours a week to get your business started. But if you are determined to be successful, you will."

Many people comment not only the company's great service, but also Roosevelt's name.

"Someone once told me, 'You know, you were named after someone great. He started to tell me 'Franklin Roosevelt', but I was thinking more along the lines of my dad. But yes, it is a presidential name."
