The Salon at Burbank
"The Joan" Opens The Salon
by Maggie Heyn Richardson
Who's that celebrity in The Salon at Burbank Avenue?
"You," says owner Joan "The Joan" Louis, whose mission is to help customers bring out their inner celebrity.
Louis, a vivacious native of St. Lucia who has been in the beauty business for more than 20 years, has a firm handle on what's in, what's not, and what it takes to make women and men look their best. Joan is a sought after Paul Mitchell senior educator and is also the owner of Mo Hair, a successful Baton Rouge salon with a longstanding excellent reputation.
Specializing in hair extensions, relaxers, precision cuts, and color, Joan and her staff at The Salon at Burbank welcome clients into a relaxing and private atmosphere. A free consultation determines what type of look the customer wants to achieve.
"I love for men and women to look their best," says Joan. "Nowadays, it's so much fun because people are interested in experimenting more with bold colors and styles. There's so much to work with."
Hair extensions are all the rage among celebrities today, and no less than Britney Spears, Halle Berry, and Faith Hill have recently been spotted wearing them. The Salon at Burbank offers high quality extensions in various styles, colors, and in lengths between 8 and 36 inches. "There are a number of reasons to use hair extensions," says Joan. "For some people it's all about fashion and achieving a new look. For others, it's to fight hair loss. We can help both." Hair extension services are performed with state of art techniques.
Color treatments range from custom blended colors that match perfectly with existing color or that provide a whole new look. Customers who want to hide gray, who want highlights, or who just want a colorless sheen to spruce up their hair will find it at The Salon. "We use only top quality products that protect and condition the hair." In the mood to look like Christina Aguilera or Avril Lavigne? The Salon at Burbank provides colorful extensions in vibrant blues, lusty reds, or sunny oranges.
In addition to her menu of hair services, Joan and company also offer make-up consultations using Sacha Cosmetics, past official make up for both the Miss Universe and Miss USA pageants. Sacha Cosmetics are perfect for people with yellow undertones. "Seventy percent of the world's population has yellow tones in their skin, yet most makeup is made for people who have pink tones," says Joan. "Sacha allows our clients to achieve a sophisticated, natural look."
Joan's customers come from all backgrounds and live throughout the Greater Baton Rouge area and out of state. She keeps her clients coming back through her attention to detail, her positive, upbeat vibe, her focus on good health (you'll only find bottled water to drink here), and a few good incentives. After customers spend $500, Joan gives them a $50 gift certificate. In addition, $50 credits will also be given to clients who refer 10 new customers.
Planning a wedding or getting ready for a big event? Stop in at The Salon for an "up do," a makeover, an eyebrow wax, or a basic shampoo, cut and style. Joan can help you find just the look to make sure every head in the room turns your way. Like she says, you're the celebrity.
