The Station Sports Bar and Grill

Don't Forget to Stop By the Station!

The Station is a Baton Rouge crowd pleaser. Built from an old boxcar, this surprisingly spacious bar has a comfortable yet vibrant atmosphere, and is a favorite destination of LSU students, young professionals, and almost anyone looking for a good time and great live music.

"I'd say the average customer age is from 25 to about 70," says Robert Graham, who along with his brother Jason has owned the Station for nearly half of the bar's seventeen-year existence.

A classic sports bar with a large and dazzling memorabilia collection, high-def televisions and gorgeous waitresses, The Station offers over 100 beer imports and a menu of endless burgers, sandwiches, and appetizers.

This true sports bar attracts former LSU stars such as Josh Reed and Michael Clayton, who donate their jerseys to the Station's crowded walls, and frequently return to visit and sign memorabilia. "A lot of the players, past and present, stop by," says Robert. "The older ones remember what it was like to be at LSU, and The Station is a real touchstone for them."

But LSU and its graduates are just part of the crowd here. "It's a neighborhood bar, not a dance or night club, but more of a house-party type atmosphere. And it's a bit like two bars in one. On one side you can socialize with your friends, and on the other side you can dance and listen to live music."

Bands who play at The Station include Chris LeBlanc, Damon King, Transit, Cam Pyle, New World Funk, Mike Zito, Tip Tops, After 8, Guttersharks, Shackdaddy, True Spin, Room Service, Same Difference, and many others. The South Baton Rouge Journal recently voted The Station as Baton Rouge's Best in Local Live Music.

"It was a thrill for us to be recognized for our entertainment," says Robert. "There's lots of places to listen to live music. We manage to be a little different from anywhere else."

The bands play in a cozy, large room with eight to ten couches. "Sometimes people get too comfortable and fall asleep," Robert says. The room doubles as a party site for major sporting events. "For the Superbowl or an LSU game, people can come over here and not worry about tearing their house up."

Robert and his bothers are founders of Graham Tiger Tower, part of the Tiger Athletic Foundation and the new home for Mike the Tiger. Robert, along with his co-owner brother Jason, and a second brother, Steven, who works in real estate, have honored their late parents with their contribution to the structure in their memory. "They were big contributors to LSU, and we wanted to dedicate something to them," Robert says.

The Station continues its evolution into one of the town's best-recognized and most versatile hot spots. "It used to be mainly a college bar," says Robert. "It took a couple of years. Baton Rouge is a big, small town. The word-of-mouth brings people here. We thank Baton Rouge for allowing us to serve them for the last 17 years."
