Thai Kitchen

Thai Kitchen Expands
Local Favorite Now Features Steaks, Sushi, Karaoke, Sports Bar

Located since 1989 on Perkins Road between Acadian and College, Thai Kitchen has attracted many fans over the years with its light, deliciously spiced food and exotic atmosphere.

Owner Sam Sanguanruang is the popular and ever-present host who keeps Thai Kitchen brimming with fun and fine food. "If you think Thai food is Chinese food, think again," he says, seated at one of his restaurant's amazing teak wood tables. "Our food is lighter and healthier, with its own unique flavors."

Last September the restaurant doubled in size, adding a large second room to accommodate more guests as well as a beautiful sushi bar and sushi rooms. Then there is the Karaoke room. If you haven't checked out karaoke at Thai Kitchen on a Friday or Saturday night, you're missing out on a new Baton Rouge favorite. Walk around inconspicuously with a wireless microphone and sing your heart out while following the lyrics on one of the big screen plasma televisions. You're also welcome to compete for over $300 in cash and prizes awarded the first Saturday of each month.

The sushi bar and kitchen are open till 2 a.m. with dollar shots served from 10 p.m. to close. The elegantly appointed VIP rooms for karaoke and sushi are available at reasonable rates by reservation and provide personal service for up to 15 people.

Still known for its famous Thai fare, the restaurant now serves a great fillet mignon called "The King and I" — a savory combination of American and Thai steak styles.

Don't forget the great traditional menu including Thai salads, seafood, poultry, pork and beef; Thai Classic Curry dishes; delicious rice and noodle dishes, and a vegetarian section with wonderful curries, noodles, and Thai selections. Appetizers at Thai Kitchen will start you off grandly and include Thai egg rolls, shrimp toast, satay, and grilled calamari, among others.

Thai kitchen also caters.

Sam says the herbs in his food even have medicinal uses.

"Some of the ingredients are known to help with asthma and sinus problems. Diabetes, too." Sam adds that his lemon grass soup helps treat colds. "Our customers will ask for it," he says. "Some have a cough when they get here, but then leave without one."

Thai Kitchen's cuisine provides a tempting niche in a town boasting many fine restaurants. The reasonably priced lunch buffet is an easy way to get a taste for Thai dishes. Try it, you'll like it.
